Abstract
The inference on a value for cultivation and use (VCU) of new varieties is usually drawn from results of series of trials performed in different environments (trial stations, locations) over a period of 3–4 years. Similar series of trials are also performed for post-registration investigations. A size of series (number of locations) depends on the economic importance of a plant species and varies (in Poland) from very few trials for less important species to several dozens for the most important ones. There is a permanent economical pressure on reducing a size of series. In this work the influence of a number of experiments on the degree of a genotype-environment interaction was investigated. Also, a contribution of particular experimental stations (locations) to the genotype-environment interaction was assessed. The results of a four-year series of 219 trials on wheat, conducted between 1991 and 1994 at 70 experimental stations, were utilized. This had been the last such an extensive set of data, as in the following years the number of trials was largely reduced.
