The importance of plant genetic resources

Abstract
Plant genetic resources are protected by international agreements. They were considered to be the common heritage of mankind, thus the benefits of their use must be fairly shared. Since the regulation has been established
on the international level over the past 15 years more than 5.5 million seed samples have been made available.
It is estimated that the use of plant genetic resources generates billions of benefits worldwide.
