Abstract
The results are presented of the 3-years field trials conducted in 2003-2005 in the Production - Experimental Station in Bałcyny. The research aimed at evaluation of the effects of different doses of nitrogen fertilization: 0 (the control), 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180, 210, 240, 270 kg N·ha-1 on yields of two maize cultivars: Junak (FAO 210-220) and Boruta (FAO 230-240) grown for silage The yield of silage raw material was detemined by weather conditions in the years of study. In the conditions of North-East Poland dry matter yields of the cultivars Junak and Boruta were similar and relatively high: 171,9 dt∙ha-1 and 170,0 dt∙ha-1, respectively. The dose of 150 N kg∙ha-1 in cultivation of the silage maize caused the highest yield increase characterized also by a favourable participation of cobs. A gradual increase of protein yield was observed up to the N dose 240kg ha-1, and the yield of brutto energy grew up to the N dose 150 kg∙ha-1. The increase of nitrogen fertilization to 270·ha-1 caused an increase of total protein content. The increased nitrogen fertilization reduced the content of fat and raw fibre in silage material, however the effect of N dose was variable.
