Abstract
The aim of the study was to evaluate the winter triticale × wheat hybrids in relation to yielding traits and protein content in grain. In the experiment four combinations of winter triticale × wheat F5 hybrids were tested: Janko × Clever, Presto × Clever, Disco × Piko and Disco × Soraja. The grains of hybrids and of parental forms were sown in 2 m2 plots in the autumn 2007 in the one-plot replication field experiment conducted at the Experimental Field Station of the University of Life Sciences in Czesławice near Nałęczów, Poland. During the period of full maturity single plants (38–42) from each of the crossing combinations and from parental forms were chosen to measure plant height and the following traits: spike length, spikelet number per spike, grain number and grain weight per spike, spikelet fertility, 1000 grains weight and protein content in grain. Taking into consideration the great differentiation of plant height within hybrid populations, the mean values of the estimated traits were calculated for 4 groups of plant height: <100 cm; 100–110 cm; 110.1–120 cm; >120.1 cm. The results obtained indicate that the hybrid forms differed in the values of traits and in protein content of grain, which strongly depended on plant height.
