Abstract
The aim of this research was to analyze the influence of sowing date and density on yield size and components in six cultivars of winter wheat in conditions of ploughless soil tillage. The experiments were carried out in the years 2005–2007 at the Agricultural Experimental Station of the Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation in Jelcz-Laskowice on good rye complex soil. The effects of the following factors were evaluated: I — term of sowing: a) 14–16 September, b) 1–3 October, c) 15–17 October; II — two seeding densities: a) 300 grains·m-2, b) 450 grains·m-2; III — six winter wheat cultivars: Finezja, Rywalka, Kobiera, Satyna, Bogatka and Zawisza. As compared to the optimum term of sowing, the early term did not result in reducing the grain yield, whereas comparatively lower yield was obtained when the sowing date was delayed by 2 weeks. Cultivar Satyna produced significantly higher yield than the other cultivars, irrespective of the date of sowing. This resulted from the increased number of ears per unit of surface area and from the increased weight and number of grains per ear. Cultivars Finezja, Rywalka and Kobiera yielded comparably at the sowing densities of 300 and 450 grains·m-2, whereas the three other cultivars gave higher yield at the sowing density of 450 grains·m-2.
