Abstract
The studies were focused on the evaluation of 40 advanced lines of winter triticale for grain yield (per m2) and its three components (spikes per m2, grains per spike and TGW), using the data from pre-registration yield trials performed at three locations: Dębina, Laski and Sobiejuchy. The investigations were aimed at multivariate assessment of distinct yield component architectures in the lines, describing their quantitative yield formation strategies. At each location, clusters of lines with similar values of the yield components were distinguished. Similar combinations of the all yield component levels in each lines group under an environment describe a distinct quantitative strategy of grain yield formation among the lines, as expressed by the levels of the considered yield-contributing traits under the environment. Diversity of the yield formation strategies among the lines was studied using PCA as an ordination method. In each environment the lines were substantially variable for the yield components, while their variation for grain yield was relatively lesser due to the compensation between spikes per m2 and grains per spike. The strategies of grain yield formation in terms of the yield components in the winter triticale genotypes are affected by the genotype × environment interaction. This fact can make rather difficult to determine selection criterions as based on three yield components. The highest grain yie
