Evaluation of the barley landraces resistance to powdery mildew (Blumeria graminis)

Abstract
A set of 478 barley lines (Hordeum vulgare L.) was screened for resistance to powdery mildew. The lines were derived from spring barley landraces originated mainly from the Mediterranean Basin. The three Blumeria graminis isolates with a known virulence spectra were used in the study. Resistance evaluation was performed on seedlings under controlled conditions. The study revealed the 111 resistant lines, the nine among them showed resistance to three B. graminis isolates. Selected lines may be a source of resistance to powdery mildew useful in resistance breeding programs.
