Abstract
The experiments with 17 breeding lines of durum wheat and three cultivars of winter wheat were carried out using randomised complete block design in four locations in 2005. Six traits were investigated: grain vitreosity, total protein content, ash of flour, falling number, β-carotene content and grain yield. The analysis of variance revealed differences between all the experimental objects for all the traits. The breeding lines, compared to the cultivars, achieved higher values of grain vitreosity, total protein, ash of flour and β-carotene content, but there was no difference in falling number. The t cultivars produced higher yield than breeding lines. A correlation analysis showed significant negative dependencies between grain yield and all quality traits. It can be assumed that increase in yielding may result in decreasing grain quality. Path analysis confirmed the negative, direct and significant relations between grain yield and all the quality traits except total protein content.
