Productivity of new potato cultivars under organic and conventional production system

Abstract
The research was carried out in the years 2020-2022 at the Institute of Plant Breeding and Acclimatization in the Jadwisin-central Poland Branch. The aim of the research was to evaluate the productivity of several potato varieties grown in two production systems and to assess their suitability for cultivation under organic system. Six potato cultivars belonging to different groups of earliness were tested. Plant productivity indices as well as tuber yield and its structure were assessed. Significant differentiation of both plant productivity indices and tuber yield and its structure depending on the production system and cultivar was found. In the organic cultivation system, these indicators were much lower than in the conventional. The tuber yield of cultivars grown in the organic system was 51% lower. A large diminution of the yield was also noted. Large varietal differences were found. The Jelly cultivar was characterized by the best yield parameters in the organic system. Among the tested varieties, Gardena and Irmina varieties can also be recommended.
