Analysis of an unreplicated breeding experiment with rye (Secale cereale L.) hybrids

Abstract
In the paper the results of analysis of an unreplicated breeding experiments with 165 hybrids of rye (Secale cereale L.) are reported. The experiments were carried out at four locations: Choryń, Nagradowice, Wierzenica and Laski. The cultivar Balistic was used as a standard. The standard was systematically placed in the experimental fields among the tested hybrids. The following traits were observed and measured: plant height, lodging, brown rust resistance, grain yield. Linear variance model was used to the analysis of the unreplicated breeding trials. The model allows for recording of local trends within a block and the analysis removes these trends by using a form of smoothing. The 11.5% best rye hybrids were selected to next breeding stage on the basis of obtained results.
