Abstract
The surveys conducted in the period March-June 2008 were used to present the views of managers and principal plant breeders working for the ANR and IHAR single-owner entities on some aspects of organizational systems and functions met at breeding and seed companies. More, the role of Polish science in plant breeding and that of seed inspection institutes in Poland, are characterized. Analysis of the data shows that there is need for an individual approach to the new challenges related to the strategic development of national plant breeding and the need for improvement of value chain efficiency in breeding and seed companies. Furthermore, in order to give scientific support to national plant breeding and seed industry, it is necessary to develop a new model of support, increasing the share of science as a carrier of knowledge and allowing the extension of cooperation between science and plant breeding companies. At the same time, as a matter of law, the role and place of the Plant Health And Seed Inspection should be referred again.
