Abstract
In the years 2004–2006 a suitability of some species of honey plants for reclamation of the soil-less ground of flotation lime enriched with sludge in the post-exploitation area of the Jeziorko Sulphur Mine was evaluated. The flotation lime was fertilized with sediments of municipal wastes at a dose of 500 m3/ha. Every year, in spring, mineral fertilization (70 kg N, 75 kg P2O5 and 100 kg K2O per 1 ha) was also applied. Forty-five species of annual, biennial or perennial honey plants were tested. Field germination, development phases and usability of the plants in reclamation of flotation lime were evaluated in a 9-grade scale used to assess plant luxuriance. The best germination was found with Borago officinalis, Echinops commutatus, E. ritro, E. ruthenicus, Leonurus sibiricus, L. cardiaca as well as with both forms (annual and biennial) of Melilotus albus, Ocimum basilicum, Dracocephalum moldavicum, Phacelia tanacaetifolia, Fagophyrum esculentum and Silybum marianum. The germination of Agastache rugosa, A. anethiodora, A. nepetoides, Centaurea rhenana and Elsholtzia cristata was weaker. Lathyrus silvester, Impatiens glandulifera and Sida hermaphroditis showed the weakest germination of all the tested species. Among the annual honey plants the most usable in land reclamation turned out M. albus, B. officinalis, F. esculentum and O. basilicum, whereas I. glandulifera was the least useful. Among the biennial forms M. albus, Isatis tinctoria, C. rhenana and Oenothera biennis were found suitable. From the perennial plants the most luxuriant on this ground appeared Solidago serotina, S. canadensis and Eryngium planum, while such plants as Lavatera thuringiaca, Anchusa officinalis and Agastache anethiodora showed lower vigour. Lathyrus silvester was found to be the least exuberant among the evaluated plants. The positive effects of honey plants upon the formation of chemical properties of flotation lime were observed.
