Competition effects of winter triticale plants in field trials

Abstract
Two field trials with winter triticale confirmed the occurrence of competition effects among the plants, including border effects near the paths as well as competition within and between the experimental plots. Grain mass and plot density were measured per length unit of row. The significant yield increases were stated for the head part of a plot (up to 1 m) and for the border rows (up to 40 cm). The possibility of occurrence of such competition should be taken into consideration at planning of experiments and at choosing suitable statistical methods, which can eliminate the effects of interference.
