Abstract

In 1974-1976 laboratory and pot experimental studies of winter wheat cv. Grana, harvested by a single and a two-phase method have been carried out. The seeds were tested immediately after harvest and at three latter dates: 3(I), 6(II) and 9(III) weeks after harvest.
Not many seed injuries of the wheat grain were ca used by harvesting with both methods (2-3%). The use of the two-phase harvesting method lead to a decreased vigor as estimated at the II and III sowing dates. At the I and IV dates of sowing the value of the vigor incidice was influenced more by the climatic conditions at the sowing time than by the method of harvesting. The planting of the seeds deeper (6 cm) ca used a decrease of the vigor value. Using the USBCL method a preliminary information on the germinability of winter wheat seed could be obtained within 2-3 days.
