Abstract

In the years 2006–2008 the field experiments were conducted to assess the efficiency of four herbicides in controlling weeds in winter wheat cultivars Kobra and Tonacja. The cultivars were sown at two sowing rates: recommended (400 seeds per m2) and reduced (200 seeds per m2). The tested herbicides were applied in two terms: in the autumn, at wheat plants stage of 2–4 leaves (pendimethalin 250 g/l + isoproturon 125 g/l and diflufenican 150 g/l + iodosulfuron-methyl-sodium 3 g/l + mesosulfuron-methyl 9 g/l), and in the spring time, at the stage of full tillering of plants (2.4-D 417.5 g/l + dicamba 32.5 g/l and mecoprop 300 g/l + MCPA 200 g/l + dicamba 40 g/l). No difference between the two cultivars in the degree of weed infestation was found. In cv. Tonacja, weed infestation was affected by the wheat sowing rate. No effects of sowing rate upon the efficiency of the herbicides applied were observed in neither wheat cultivar.
