Abstract

The research concerned susceptibility of spring barley to infection of Bipolaris sorokiniana in relationship to plant development stage. The aim of this study was the estimation of emergence after seed inoculation and influence of plant development stage on occurrence of leaf spot in a field experiment. The effects of plant infections by B. sorokiniana on seed yield and seed health were also investigated. According to our results, the emergence of all examined cultivars decreased after seed inoculation of fungal solution of B. sorokiniana. The highest incidence of infection, in comparison to the control, was observed on plants inoculated at heading and flowering. It was also found that seed yield and seed infection by B. sorokiniana is strongly influenced by plant development stage, in which infection occurs. The most resistant cultivars, in the laboratory conditions, were Lailla and Prosa while the most susceptible were Rastik and Widawa.
