Abstract

The survival period of Clavibacter michiganensis ssp. sepedonicus (Cms) in the environment of sterile water originating from a lake, pond and a river and maintained at different temperatures was assessed. Distilled water was used as a control variant. Isolation of bacteria from the suspensions and biological test with the use of eggplant (Solanum melongena) assay plants were done. The results of the study indicated that Cms was able to survive for a long time in the water from lake, pond or river kept at 4°C. The bacteria retained the ability to cause infection in S. melongena. The increase in environmental temperature up to 21°C resulted both in the decrease in Cms density in water suspensions and in the diminished infectivity to eggplant plants.
