The effects of insecticides on potato tuber yield and its structure

Abstract
A field experiment was carried out in the years 2004–2006 at the Experimental Farm in Zawady owned by the University of Podlasie in Siedlce. Two factors were investigated in the study: factor I — potato cultivars: Wiking, Mors and Żagiel, factor II — six ways of Colorado beetle control including the following insecticides: Actara 25 WG, Regent 200 SC and Calypso 480 S.C. (each at three rates), and a control treatment without chemical control. Yields in the study years were low and ranged from 17.59 to 33.33 t·ha-1. The total tuber yield largely depended on cultivar properties and chemicals applied to control Colorado beetle. The highest ( 26.3 t·ha-1) and the lowest (22.3 t·ha-1) average total tuber yields were recorded for cultivars Mors and Żagiel, respectively. Significant effects of the insecticides applied upon yielding of potato plants were observed.
