Abstract
We present results on analysis of quantitative trait loci (QTL) associated with resistance on seedlings leaves of wheat to septoria tritici blotch (STB) caused by fungus Mycosphaerella graminicola (anamorph Septoria tritici). A population of doubled haploid (DH) lines derived from a cross between cultivars Liwilla (resistant) and Begra (susceptible) were investigated in the research. Resistance of the population was evaluated under controlled conditions using seedling detached leaves and whole seedlings methods. Individuals were inoculated with mixture of S. tritici isolates. QTL analysis revealed quantitative resistance loci (QRL) on chromosomes: 3A, 7A, 2B, 5B and 3D. The percentage of phenotypic variance explained by a single QRL ranged from 8.3% (LOD = 2.70) to 30.0% (LOD = 8.71). The highest phenotypic variance (30%) of the resistance reaction of leaves was explained by locus QStb.ihar-7A detected on chromosome 7AS. For the first time we report resistance locus on this chromosome. The same holds for chromosome 3DL on which locus QStb.ihar-3D explained 11.8% (LOD = 3.66) of the phenotypic variance and this region of wheat genome associated with resistance to STB was not reported previously. QRLs detected on chromosomes 3A, 2B and 5B were localized in vicinity to already described in literature resistance loci to S. tritici, namely QStb.riso-3A.2, QStb.riso-2B and Stb1. At this stage of the research we can not establish their relationships accurately. The results indicate on complex and polygenic nature of resistance to STB in cultivar Liwilla.
