Abstract

This article presents the achievements and prospects of plant functional phenotyping discussed at the IPAP4 conference in Brno. Topics included high-throughput phenotyping systems such as RGB, thermal, multispectral, and hyperspectral imaging; chlorophyll fluorescence; 3D methods; and UAV-based phenotyping. A significant portion of the presentations focused on plant responses to abiotic stresses, integrating phenotypic data with genomic and environmental data, and applying machine learning to image analysis and agronomic trait prediction. The presentations also covered methods for root system phenotyping, research on algae and cyanobacteria, and approaches to data organization and reuse. The work presented showed that phenotyping is increasingly moving beyond describing plant traits to become a tool for predicting plant responses under natural conditions and supporting breeding decisions.
