Abstract

Dry and brown leaf spots commonly known as early blight disease of potato, are in fact a group of diseases with an increasing role in recent years. Field experiments estimating the effectiveness of fungicides Altima 500 SC (fluazinam), Dithane M-45 80 WP (mancozeb), Unikat 75WG (mancozeb+zoxamide), Tanos 50 WG (cymoxanil + famoxadone), Ridomil Gold MZ 68 WG (metalaxyl-M+mancozeb) and Infinito 687.5 SC (propamokarb-HCL+ fluopicolide) against potato early blight were carried out in Bonin in the years 2009–2011. The results showed that all tested fungicides significantly reduced the development of potato early blight compared to the unprotected control. The study also confirmed the hypothesis that chemical protection has the beneficial effects on tuber yield. Field experiments conducted in Bonin, showed that due to the chemical protection (delay of the critical moment of haulm destruction), the tuber yield can be higher by 27% when compared to control.
