Affecting of soil tillage systems and weed control methods on the individual productivity of potato plants

Abstract
The field experiments were carried out in 2002–2004 on a very good rye soil complex, which the effects of two soil tillage systems traditional and simplified, and of seven methods of weed control with herbicides on individual productivity of potato plants were compared. Statistical analysis revealed significant effects of the methods of weed control and of the weather conditions over the experimental years on the mass and number of the tubers per plant and on the average mass of one. High correlation between the number, fresh matter and air-dry matter of weeds and individual productivity of potato plants was found. A negative influence of weed infestation on individual productivity of plants appeared to be stronger before tubers harvest than at the beginning of crop growth, i.e. before closing of potato rows. The increase in weed infestation by 1 g of air-dry matter of weeds per m2 resulted in the reduction of tuber mass per plant and of the average mass of tuber by 3.27 and 0.62 g, respectively, when recorded before closing of potato rows, and by 9.05 g and 1.67 g, when estimated before potato harvest.
