The effect of tillage systems and herbicides on infection of tubers of potato c.v. Wiking by black scurf (Rhizoctonia solani)

Abstract
The effects of tillage systems and of some herbicides and their mixtures (Plateen 41,5 WG, Plateen 41,5 WG + Fusilade Forte 150 EC, Plateen 41,5 WG + Fusilade Forte 150 EC + Atpolan 80 EC, Barox 460 SL, Barox 460 SL + Fusilade Forte 150 EC, Barox 460 SL + Fusilade Forte 150 EC + Atpolan 80 EC) on infection of tubers of potato c.v. Wiking by Rhizoctonia solani were investigated in the years 2002–2004. The percentage of infected tubers, mean degree of tuber sample infection and mean degree of tuber infection were scored. The results obtained showed that simplified tillage (two tillage treatments), as compared with traditional tillage (five treatments), significantly reduced the degree of tuber infection by black scurf. The weather conditions differed between the growing seasons and influenced the intensity of tuber disease. The herbicide treatments had no significant effect on tuber infestation by black scurf.
