Evaluation of yield stability of open-pollinated and hybrid cultivars of winter oilseed rape

Abstract
Post registration yield trials including winter oilseed rape cultivars were carried out in Lower Silesia in the years 2005–2007 at the following locations: Krościna Mała, Naroczyce, Pawłowice, Tarnów Śląski, Tomaszów Bolesławiecki and Zybiszów. Four open-pollinated cultivars: Bazyl, Bojan, Cabriolet, and Californium and five hybrids: Baldur, Kronos, Mazur, Pomorzanin and Titan were used. Evaluation of yield stability was based upon parametric and non-parametric methods. The following parametric procedures were applied: linear regression coefficient (bi), variance of the regression deviations (S2di), Shukla’s stability variance( 2i), Wricke’s ecovalence (Wi2) and Hanson’s statistic (Di). To assess yielding stability two Hühn’s measures (Si1, Si2), Kang’s parameter (RS) and a new measure of stability based on homogeneous group ranks were used. No significant differences were found between the open-pollinated and hybrid cultivars. According to Shukla’s and Wricke’s measures, the open-pollinated cultivar Californium and hybrid Titan showed the lowest variation across the environments in the standard level (low input) of cultivation. The new method based on homogeneous groups rank, which defines a dynamic concept of stability, identified the hybrids Baltazar, Kronos, Titan and open-pollinated cultivar Cabriolet as the most stable.
