Abstract

The aim of the study was to assess the effects of some meteorological factors upon development of potato plants. The occurrence and duration of the phenophases in 42 Polish potato cultivars were evaluated in the experiments that were conducted over the period of 14 years (1984–1997). The influence of genotype and meteorological conditions on variability of plant growth was estimated. Based on the analysis of regression, the effects of air and soil temperature, total rainfall and Selianinov coefficient on the examined plant features were established. These results can explain which meteorological factor is the most important to each potato phenophase. Next, the confidence interval for the appearance and duration of each phenophase was calculated. All the cultivars could be divided into three significantly differentiated groups, depending on the values of their growth features. The findings can be useful in characterizing new potato genotypes.
