Abstract
The aim of field experiment conducted in the years 2010–2012 in Plant Breeding and Acclimatization Institute, Department at Jadwisin, was to assess yielding, uptake and utilization of nitrogen from mineral fertilizers by tubers of early and later potato cultivars in different weather conditions. The investigation was carried out on the light soil fertilized organically with straw and aftercrop of white mustard. In these experiments 5 levels of nitrogen fertilization were applied: 0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 kg N·ha-1 with the constant level of phosphorus 17.5 kg P·ha-1 and potassium 108.0 kg K∙ha-1. Climatic conditions during growing periods and the level of nitrogen fertilization were main factors that influenced uptake of nitrogen with tubers yield and utilization of nitrogen from fertilizers. The utilization of nitrogen decreased from about 50 to 35% for early cultivars, but in the case of later cultivars from about 55 to 36% with increasing N rates from 50 to 200 kg N·ha-1. Significant differences of nitrogen uptake and utilization were found between cultivars groups. The later cultivars showed higher uptake and utilization of nitrogen than early cultivars. In the years favourable for cumulation of tuber yield, a higher nitrogen utilization was observed than in years with big fluctuations of rains and air temperatures in vegetation period of potato plants.
