Abstract

Genetic resistance to powdery mildew (Blumeria graminis f. sp. hordei) of 20 cultivars of winter barley and of 55cultivars of spring barley from Polish Registration trials 2004–2006 is presented. All the winter barley cultivars have one or more genes for resistance in loci Mlra, Mla6, Mla7, Mla7(Ab), MlSt, Ml(SI-1), Mlh, Mlk, and six unknown genes were detected. Twelve different resistance genes: Mla1, Mla3, Mla7, Mla9, Mla12, Mla13, Mlg, MlLa, Ml(SI-1), Ml(St), Mlk, mlo and five unknown genes were detected in spring varieties. Only cultivars with gene mlo and Ml(SI-1) have a high level of resistance to powdery mildew in Poland.
