Abstract

In the years 1981–1992, five series of experiments on tuber dormancy of 23 potato cultivars (9 mid-early and 14 late maturing) were performed at the Institute of Potato Research in Jadwisin. To assess the length of a dormancy period, three estimates were used:
—time (days) from tuberization to sprouting of 80% of tubers,
—time (days) from the „date 0” to sprouting of 80% of tubers,
—date of sprout emergence on 80% of tubers.
Based on the data obtained, a 9-grade scale of dormancy was elaborated (1 — shortest dormancy, 9 — longest dormancy). The grades 1–3 indicate a short dormancy period, 4–6 moderate period, and 7–9 long period of dormancy. Each grade is associated with a strictly determined date of the end of tuber dormancy.
