Abstract

The beginning of sprouting and sprouts’ length during storage at temperature 3°C, 5°C, 8°C and influence of weather factors in vegetation period on date of beginning of sprouting was evaluated. The beginning of sprouting of potatoes stored at temperature 8°C depended on varieties and begun in 2nd decade of January. After storage period, the length of sprouts was 84 mm. The 5°C temperature of storage caused delay in sprouting beginning of about 4 decades in relation to storage at temperature 8°C. Potatoes storage at 3°C caused delay in the beginning of sprouting of about 2 months in relation to storage at 8°C. Sum of rainfall during vegetation season had the largest influence on the date of sprouting beginning. Higher rainfall and also higher Sielianinov coefficient in vegetation season caused an extension of the dormancy period. The date of the start of sprouting for each variety and growing conditions was determined by degree-days calculated for the period from September to the beginning of sprouting during storage (at the 5°–8°C).
